The Whole Nine Yards

The term “The Whole Nine Yards” stems from WWII where the bullet clips used for the machine guns on American planes stretched 27 feet. When a machine gun operator used an entire clip on a plane he would say he gave him “the whole nine yards”. (27ft=9yards).
