Calling for shutgun comes form the Western Days when in the wagon the guy sitting next to the driver held a Shotgun for protection.

no, no thats not it – shotgun came for the simple fact that riders in the eariler days would carry a shothun at their side, anywhere not necessarly in a car, or automobile. so shotgun is really like a side kick. meaning passenger side.
