Macintosh

The basis of the Macintosh computer was Apple’s Lisa which was released in 1983. This was the first system to utilize a GUI or Graphical User Interface. The first Macintosh was released in 1984.

  1. First Love – I fell in love with Lisa when I first laid eyes on her screen and hand on her mouse. I turned away from the mainframe that and never looked back. I credit her appearance for much of my career success.

  2. Mostly wrong – The Macintosh could be said to be based on the Lisa, in the sense that Windows 95 could be said to be based on Windows 3.1. And just as it would be more accurate to say that both Win3.1 and Win95 were based on Macintosh, it’d be more accurate (and more literally true) to say both the Lisa and the Macintosh were based on Xerox machines called the “Alto” and the “Star”. The first Alto was released in 1973. I have heard that they had a GUI for mainframes before that, but don’t feel like doing the necessary research to confirm it (like many others around here).
